John Ch 11 V 1-16

Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. 3So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”

When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

Then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.”

“But Rabbi,” they said, “a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?”

Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world’s light. 10It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light.”

After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”

His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” 13Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, 15and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”

Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

.  When our brother or sister in Christ is going through struggles, we pray for them. When we are going through a period of sin, or problems in our lives, we are to not just give up and end in death, but we have those struggles so Jesus may be glorified through it. Jesus loves all of humanity, but there are times when we ask for prayer He will not come right away, because the time is not yet right.  Jesus will always be with you, even when everyone else there could be against you. Jesus tells us God has our lives planned out for us, and during the time we are still on this earth God will protect us from death before the end of our time on earth. During the time we are still on earth, nothing can harm us to the point of death while it is in God’s will for us to live. It is finally when our time on earth is up, God will have us move on to life in heaven! Jesus’ words here refer to Himself, as long as it is not the intended time for Him to die, nothing can harm Him. It is because He knows God’s plan for Him, that He has no fear walking into danger. Jesus knows when we have our troubles, and there is nothing that He cannot do, we have to just trust. Thomas thought Jesus will be in mortal danger if He returned to Judea, but he had no fear of going with Jesus into the danger; instead, Thomas rallied the other disciples to follow Jesus where ever He went. This should be the same with us, we should be able to follow our Lord where ever He has willed, and in Him we can trust our lives for He is the Creator of the universe, without Him we would not have this life.
